🔧 Smart Manufacturing Decisions at IMS Global Gear 🔧
At IMS Global Gear, one of our biggest challenges—and strengths—is selecting the right machine tools and processes that deliver the best return on investment for our customers. We aim to offer solutions where every dollar spent drives efficiency, accuracy, and reliability.
Recently, one of our major OEM customers presented us with a challenge:
📈 Produce 40,000 units each of three different gear types, but without enough volume to justify two separate grinding machines.
💡 Our Solution?
During our internal machine tool review, our team identified a highly flexible solution: the DVS Buderus modular grinder. This machine combines multiple capabilities in a single platform, including:
- Hard Turning
- Face Grinding
- ID Grinding
- Diamond Honing
- Automatic in-process gauging
As seen in the photo below, the components vary significantly in size—from a small pinion to much larger gears. The Buderus machine’s modular design allows us to process all three on the same machine, thanks to its ability to integrate up to three machining units, including driven tools.
✅ The Results:
- One machine instead of two = significant cost and floorspace savings
- Fully capable of handling multiple processes in-line
- Seamless switch between different part geometries
- Improved cycle times and quality control
This is a great example of how smart technology investments enable us to meet customer demands without compromising on quality, flexibility, or efficiency.

🚨 Exciting News from IMS Global Gear! 🚨
We’re proud to announce the acquisition of our fifth Liebherr CNC Generative Grinder – the advanced LGG 280 series. This latest machine brings cutting-edge technology with automatic ring loading and infinitely adjustable grinding profiles, enabling both generative and profile grinding.
💡 What sets it apart?
Just like our other four machines, this grinder supports fine grinding and polishing, crucial for producing high-performance, low-noise “quiet gears.” These ultra-finished gears reduce NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) – especially important in EV and high-performance applications – often eliminating the need for costly REM finishing or gearbox soundproofing.
🔍 Featured Technology:
The dual-media grinding wheel includes a ceramic or aluminum oxide section for material removal, and a 600-grit polishing segment that smooths peaks while leaving valleys to retain lubrication. The result?
✅ Reduced heat and noise
✅ Improved gear life
✅ Extended fluid change intervals
✅ Greater efficiency – all at lower cost
📸 See the innovative grinding wheel design in the photo below.
Key Highlights:
- ⚡ Faster cycle times with integrated ring loader
- 🔧 Ideal for complex geometries & tight contours
- ✨ Ultra-fine finishing for optimized performance
At IMS Global Gear, we’re committed to delivering cutting-edge gear manufacturing solutions to meet the demands of today’s high-performance industries.

Global Gear & Machining featured in Modern Machine Shop
When awarded multiple parts for specific engines and transmissions, Global Gear implements dedicated work cells that produce many parts in smaller lot sizes maintaining a proper delivery ratio of components for customer builds. To achieve this, set-ups need to be reduced and manufacturing processes need to be repeatable demonstrating part to part capability. Implementing state of the art work-holding is key to that success.
